Well, seeing as I haven't been here for a long time I figured I'd post what my thoughts are, and kind of say goodbye as well.
It was about 2 years ago, from about September to February, that I remember the server having at best, 15 people. This came right after a time of averaging about 30 people on at all times. During that time I seriously thought the server was going to die. Nobody played, maps were old, classes stale, even the forums were empty, but Tim was dedicated to it and come the spring it picked back up.
This time however, Tim is no longer finding it worth his time to work on the server. Honestly, for a server that maxes out at 100 people to last this long is quite an accomplishment. I've seen countless small servers rise for a few months, some even a whole year, then die very quickly. EW has been limping along for the past year in all honesty. Since EULA, EW never recovered fully. Donators no longer seeing the worth in donating coupled with the drama that happened on the server left EW an injured animal. Able to limp along, but would soon die off.
Now is that time that we have to say goodbye to the server. I've enjoyed my time on here, got to meet tons of people, found a community that was fun to play with, and spent way too many hours playing instead of studying. So really my whole point is that while some of us are mad it's closing, for me it's kind of expected.
I've watched the server for over 3 years now. I saw the days of armored trolls and 900 KS nazguls to the numerous Hackers that tried to ruin our fun, to the old mods leaving and new ones being sworn in. I saw the flame wars, the numerous bans, and watched as EULA tried to drag us into the abyss. I saw the great point grinders, working tirelessly for 25k Nazguls. I watched as Trolls were "Nerfed", as the Troll threads plagued the forums, saw users abuse the mods. I watched as Tim worked tirelessly for the server, building and coding masterpieces. And now, I watch as the sun sets for the last time upon the great battles of our time. I do not think I will find another place like this, mostly because I probably won't ever play Minecraft that much anymore due to college starting soon.
So remember my friends the time you had here. Revel in your victories, and be remorseful for those who are perma banned. Marvel at your creations, and laugh at each other's jokes, and never forget to tell everyone how terrible their ideas are.
I'd now like to say a big thanks to the following people for the many fun times we had together while on this server. In no particular order,
Pythonawe - for being a cool guy to me
Killmatronix- for telling me everything wrong with my ideas
dr_olex- for the good RPing we did
Mile_hi_Masher- for a lot of different stuff
Ahanafram- for always liking me no matter what the post said
Arakrsptec- for being a great mod
DimitriP_13421 - for defending the great burned siege tower of pelennor with me
Hasenfuss - for teaching me that bows are OP
m4rine_semperfi - for also telling me everything that was wrong with my ideas
RikoMitiko - for all the crazy fun we had, and I mean like literally insane
Robwookie - for being my DM, then my Mod, but always a friend
Slimegirl24 - for being a freaking great mod not matter what others said
Rikumaru - for making it impossible to mvp if you were on my team, and ruining my kd if you were on the other
Only_God - for absolutely destroying me with fireballs when I was a noob
and lastly
Sjoerdtim - for creating this wonderful place, for the most part, and the many years of dedication to you've given us. While many may harbor anger and resentment towards you for closing the server, I have only had respect and even a little admiration for you. Thank you for everything.
I guess this went from my thoughts to now my official goodbye to the server. Strange how my mind does this sometimes. So, I will only see a handful of you online anymore due to Minecraft having lost it's golden touch it had. I will leave in parting with this quote from our favorite fat hobbit, along with a little music.
Though here at journey's end I lie
