Elves or Dwarves

Do you forget the great Durin the deathless.
Deathless is a fool's term - the dwarves believe him to be able to reincarnate, yes, but that is very unlikely.

And what did he do, pray tell, that is greater than facing the most powerful Valar, the one who originally brought evil to this world?

He built the great city of Khazad-Dum.Tulkas is a much greater fighter than your stupid elf.
Building a city in the dwarves' style is no point of celebration.
His 'line' could not even best a Maia.
You will have to do better than Durin.

Tulkas is a Valar and has naught to do with the dwarves.

I said tulkas was a better fighter than your stupid elf.Have you seen Khazad-Dum Sauron.
Have you seen The Gray Havens? Gondolin? Rivendell, even?
The Grey Havens still stands, Rivendell never fell, and Gondolin was beset with multiple Balrogs and the most of Morgoth's army before falling.

Khazad-dum fell to but a single Balrog and goblins.

Moria is a much grander city than rivendell or gondolin
All that is grand is not great nor does it entail beauty.
And I beg to differ in the case of Gondolin. A single Balrog chased you bearded out of Moria - it took legions of them to destroy Gondolin, and other great forces besides.

you are forgetting the cause of morgoth's envy, The Silmarils. crafted as only the greatest of the elves, Feanor, could. No work of the dwarves have ever surpassed it. save the necklace of nargothrond, and that had a Silmaril as the focal point of the great necklace. the elves are children of Iluvatar and thus never to die, dwarves are creations of Alue and thus when they die they return to the stone from whence they where made. it took 1000's of years of breeding orcs and raising dragons to take gondolian, and it never would have been taken without the treachery of Maeglan.

without the silmaril the necklace would not have been the cause of 2 massacres and a war. the dwarves needed to use use the elves greatest achievement in their own to surpass it.

they only slaughtered an elven king by attacking him while he was unarmed. and then they got slaughtered by a band of elves lead by a mere man. though that man was great enough to steal a silmaril from the crown of morgoth himself.

Right, guys, I chose the elves as my point of argument for no reason other to argue - the better race depends on what you value in beauty and a story, qualities and personalities, ect. I enjoy beautiful structures that work with nature and compliment it - but also see the greatness in carved stone, towering structures, gems that glint. But it also must be known that gems do not replace flowers, and simplicity can not always eclipse grandness.

I could have argued either side easily.

TL;DR: What the race is better depends on who you are as a person and how you see it.

(In LotR, you'd be hard pressed to say the Dwarves had greater deeds than the Elves, but that means little for which is 'better')
