Miriel laid her back against a tree and looked up at the sky. Past the ferny evergreens she could see the stars. The wind had died down and when she spoke her words were clear.

"It was completely unfair of you to do that to me this morning. You barely know me. And I barely know you. Sure, we spent a good, no sorry, a great night together yesterday in Minas Tirith. But that doesn't mean you have the right or even the gall to say such a thing." She dropped it on him harder than Osman had dropped Lesier on the beach, twenty years ago.
