Iver let out a grunting sound that was supposed to be a chuckle. Eru wasn’t the only one creating villains for his ego, Manwe did the same. The original shifters did not even had releasing Melkor in mind yet he sent them to kill and take their powers, causing the release of Melkor. He didn’t strike Melkor when he was weak, he allowed him to grow stronger, build up his strength. He killed Irmo and the people of middle earth who didn’t see him as the absolute hero that he thought he was, the apple did not fall far from the tree.
Iver looked back on his little adventure and realized that, it did seem to be like his choices never mattered, he was simply there to help the others and help them. He gave Daugo his giant powers even though he would could never possibly obtain them by himself. He took Thoruk on his saga to become the champion of the dwarves. He got Sigeric a meeting with the king of Dale, which Sigeric screwed up yet Iver had no saying in that matter. He tried to warn Hazi from the upcoming betrayal of Miriel and failed. He helped Orome make what little peace he managed to make with his past. He saved Dimitri from Manwe’s prison just so he alongside Teli and Aule could leave to wherever they did. He probably even helped that Arandil guy to start his own legendary adventure by bringing him to the village of the prototypes.
He was destined by Eru to be a fucking side character in the arcs of others, he wasn’t even the hero of his own story and Iver hated him for that. All of the suffering he went through was Eru’s fault, he didn’t have free choice, he was just a passenger in the ride of his life, watching everyone grow while he lost everything.
He lost his family while Hazi made his own, he lost his reputation while Sigeric and Daugo made their own, he lost his friends while Cardiloc and Dimitri made many of them, he lost his wealth while Thoruk became rich beyond any imagination and he lost his mind while Orome made his own.
Salvation, it was exactly what Shiva offered him, but he failed her and she hated him, he was sure about that. However, Melkor, he offered him a second chance. He offered him a second chance to fulfil his oath, second chance to find Salvation, a chance to gain his freedom back and a place in the new world, a world free from Eru and his corruption.

“Ye-yes, of course” Vana would say and take a deep breath. Ulmo wasn’t corrupted, she knew it for sure. It only meant that the purification process will do nothing to him, so now all she had to do is get the guts to cut him.
“You are not cutting Ulmo, you are cutting, ummmm….” Vana whispered to herself as she prepared her blade, “Watermelon, you are cutting a watermelon” she would whisper to herself and slowly started cutting Ulmo, following Varda’s instructions.
