"Well, your brother died. Your sister got married. Your mother left me for Sigmund of Redhaven. I'm alone and depressed most of the time but I do my job. Dale nearly was lost in a battle with a huge Easterling army from Rhun. King Brand died. His son Bard II took over. Prince Luincrist likes to run the official stuff. He's a pain in the ass and makes my life a living hell but Bard is great. That's pretty much it. Also, we established great relations with King Aragorn of the Reunited Kingdom of Arnor and Gondor. I personally know him. Swell guy. The Dark Lord Sauron was defeated and the Easterlings of Rhun retreated. A lot of the nobles profited, those that survived anyway. Yeah, not much else?" Erland said, ticking things off an imaginary list.

Ha'zi sprinted after the little girl and grabbed her.
"Ela, calm down. It's not a dragon. It's Cardiloc. Look!" He said to the frightened screaming girl who refused to look at the dragon.

"He's at the training field, laddie. Allow me," The King said, rising from his throne and stepping down the huge marble slab stonecases until he was next to Thoruk. "This way, Ironbeard." He said, leading Thoruk through the doors. The guards there saw the King up and moving and followed him out, on each side. Thorin Stonehelm led Thoruk through a maze of passages, up a huge staircase and out onto a field on the precipices of the Lonely Mountain. The high altitude made combat much more difficult and it was good training for the dwarves. Thoruk saw nearly three thousand arrayed on the hilly plain in battle formations, wrestling, fighting, and moving about. Various officers on the field called orders and shouted commands. Shock troops, artillery, ranged, pike, infantry and spear units moved about as if on a chessboard, forming lines in clockwork. It was like watching elves array in their armies. This was battle done on a whole new plane of existence.
"He's over there, laddie," Thorin pointed ahead of them. Thoruk could see they were on a balcony looking down upon the field and at the edge of it, five meters in front of him was a stiff dwarf with a mighty greybeard carrying a battle horn. He turned over to see the King.
"My lord!" He proclaimed, "Welco-" he paused seeing Thoruk and he froze.
"M-my boy?" He asked, upon seeing his son. Eyes filled with surprise and something new, something lost a long time ago, with the loss of his wife, his children, love.
