VENTURES INTO THE REMOTE (RP)

Miriel merely nodded in response, head bowed low, her red hair falling over her right eye.

Iver could hear everything that had been spoken between the couple. Especially the way Ha’zi called him an assassiniv.

The riders were approaching the Carach Angren and Glorfindel rode ahead, passing the two large monoliths.

Celeborn passed through next and the rest of the Shifters too, then the retinue.

“Slow,” Celeborn ordered, raising his reigns and pulling back on his horse. It turned and he eyed the monoliths with skepticism.

“What do you think those are?” He asked to no one in particular.

“Remnants of the Isenmouthe?” One elf asked.

“They can’t be. This one seems to have been polished recently!” Another elf called over. He had brought his horse alongside the southern monolith and began touching it.

What would the Shifters think of these two pillars?

Sigeric noticed something else. As everyone gazed at the two structures he saw multiple others following the mountains.

VWOOSH.

A firework exploded. Yellow smoke hazed the sky to the south....

———

Six miles south of the Carach Angren in a woodland forest near one of the new rivers, a dozen Maia camped out, waiting for the inevitable. One of them saw an eagle high above the sky, dancing in the sun’s rays, it screeched and he turned around to speak.

”They’ve entered the Plateau.” The Maiar known as Lem said aloud.

”Ah, so they have. Signal Pyrus to activate the fence. That should brighten his day.” Mairon said, having just settled into a treehouse to view the action from afar, his Ainur eyes gazing far across the Plateau.

———-

Three miles south-west of the Carach Angren, Pyrus, Azura and a dozen other Maiar nested in the Ash Mountain Outpost, waiting for the order.

The signal came, an eagle swooped low and gawked at them, cawing.

Ha'zi wanted to talk to Miriel more, but his focus was now occupied by the commotion ahead. He didn't care much about the pillars- sure they were great architecture and all, but he knew next to nothing about them and their history. What really distracted him was the yellow flares in the sky ahead of them.

Hazardous, that's what yellow was. What had they found? Worried, Ha'zi rode forward
and addressed Celeborn or Glorfindel, whomever was closer, "What do we do now? Should we send someone to ride over there and see what is happening?" 12253360

Glorfindel continued to stare at the monolith but Celeborn turned back to the Haradrim boy, his jaw glistening in the sunlight, “Huh?” His blue eyes looked up at the yellow smoke, “That’s Elrohir’s cohort.” He muttered to himself and looked towards the nearest elf, “Dunaheim, status report. Go!” The elf nodded quickly and rushed south on his horse.

The Gondorian Cavalry Regiment had slowed down, a huge line of horses and carts waiting in the Udun Valley.

“What’s the hold up? We got a sign of Morgoth?” One of the Gondorian Captains shouted over from his side.

"Ahem," Ha'zi said, trying to get the elf's attention again, "what should we do now? Stay put?" 12253360

Celeborn’s head swayed down to gaze upon Ha’zi, “For now? Yes. Wait until we get a better hold of the situation, Master Ha’zi. If a red firework goes up, I’ll need you to take the girl and send her back. There’s no place for a non-essential, non-armed individual on the field.” He motioned his head towards Miriel.

Her emerald eyes coldly stared back at the elf, a dark shadow over her face, lips pursed.

Sighing, Ha'zi nodded and rode back next to Miriel. He didn't like this inaction, this wait. Why not just act now? The group could be unable to send up another flare from being attacked or trapped or something.

He felt a bit uneasy about sending Miriel away to a safe location. What if something happened there, an ambush from behind? He'd be unable to help her at all. But it would be the safest option, despite his disliking of it.

For now, he stared ahead at the desolate land, worried about what was to come.   12253360

"These idiots.. don't they think that the enemy might see the fireworks aswell?" Thoruk thinks as he puts of his helmet to look around. "Anyway, Irdis do you have any information I could use, against Morgoth or against the other giants if they get captured?" he asks, not pretty tempted to fight Morgoth just now, there was so much left he could learn and master.

”The weaknesses of the other Giants...” Irdis mattered, “The Guardian’s has its coord, cut it and you disable the connection between the shifter and their Giant; the Behemoth’s legs are its weak point, and you could control its flames, yet, to not much avail, however, if you can draw it out in a battle of attrition you can tire the Giant form out; the Hybrid’s very versatile but has specific weaknesses based on its animal form, exploit those; the Dwarf is small but nimble, I honestly cannot find a weakness with it other than its slightly weaker strength which it compensates for with its claws and jaw; the Warrior can be beaten if you break the Earth beneath it and use a multitude of elements to wear it down; the Destroyer can be beat if you use its own rock barrage against it and by doing similar attacks as those with the Warrior; the last is the Flying, I doubt Iver would join Morgoth but, if that is ever the case, use wind to snap his wings then step on the bat-body. Got it, dwarfy?”

Miriel kept her eyes off Ha’zi but her hand found its way into his.

The Trickster’s words replayed through his head. ”It’s all on you.”
The other voice spoke as well, ”You must win. The Fate of Arda lays on your shoulders.” Were they mocking him? Were they entrusting a duty to him? Was this just a sick game? Or was their truth to their words? Who were those two? The Trickster, his family, the Dark Shadow of his Father, the Black Figure? What did it all mean?

”May Mandos judge us,” Harros corrected Zaro, giving him a sly wink as they rode on.

“Distress signal spotted, sir!” Karstir called up from behind her Captain, “Southern Cohort, Elrohir’s squadron. Yellow smoke. Should we dispatch reinforcements or co-“

“What in-“ Turmir’s voice interrupted her.

They had passed over a hill and just beneath it was a grand fortress, a massive black stoney citadel darker than obsidian. It sat at the edge of a mountain, a natural river flowing next to it. The cracked earth ended just a few meters ahead of them and lush grass grew wild over a plain that ended with forests in the distance.

“Sir, we should report back immediately.” Karstir stared, pulling out her fireworks and rubbing a flint against it.

Iver heard what Hazi said and looked in his pockets. He didn't find any fcks to give lol look
He saw the pillars, "the dwarves made better" he said, not impressed by them.

"Do we have enough water for this expedition?" he asked Celeborn, his mouth already parched and irritated by the intensely dry atmosphere. His voice was small; a feeling of dread washed further over him with every second they spent in this accursed land, like a cold trickle down his spine.

"Shut up, please. Leave me alone." Ha'zi angrily thought as the voices drilled their repetitive message again. His fear actually being spoken over and over only made him want to hurry this all up. To be done with this bloodshed. To finally live without worry of monsters coming down from the skies to raze, without boulders raining down as the first thing he sees when he closes his eyes, no more corpses in his dreams.

Ha'zi smiled at Miriel. What would he do if she didn't join Ha'zi on this journey? He'd probably be bored out of his mind here, longing to leave. But with her here, it had been infinitely better. And soon it would end... with pain? With Morgoth vanquished? He didn't know, but he could hope as they rode along together.

"Aye, thanks for the info's ma'm" Thoruk thinks before looking around a bit more, for anything that could mean to harm them.

((Note to RPers: All Shifters are still at the Carach Angren pass. Zaro’s cohort to the south-east found the fort. Apologies if that was not apparent.))

Miriel turned to Ha’zi and raised an eyebrow, “Were you talking to me?”

16315828 13527980

"No," Ha'zi groaned. How had Miriel heard his thoughts? Did he actually say them out loud? "I keep having these thoughts... that everything is on me. Voices telling me I can't fail. I just want them.. this pressure to go away." He sighs, tightening his hold on her hand.

Sigeric's gaze moved along the horizon, following the trail of stone obelisks. He overheard the Elves mention that they had been set up recently. Morgoth had not placed these here for no reason. This line of pillars looked almost akin to... ...a fence. Suddenly, his attention was caught by a bright flash of light to the south. A yellow flare. "Prepare yourselves." he said to the other Karoltai, behind him. "Our fortunes could change at a moment's notice." Surely there was something that he could do, rather than standing around as another pawn in the ranks. Yes... there was. Sigeric closed his eyes, focusing his mind. He did not know the exact range of his power, but he reached out towards the south, seeking the minds of both friends and foes alike.

Pyrus would wait, scanning the horizon and peering at the gate. As he waited for the signal he saw a green light go into the sky, and later on a yellow light in a different direction. Strange contraptions they were but that wasn't his only thought, his hands barley grazed the surface of the pool of water, he could activate it now, enough of them were inside. Right? No, he mentally smacked himself, I wait for the signal. If I mess up everything is fucked over. After a few more minutes an eagle would fly by and caw, the signal! Odd however that he chose an eagle form. Looking into the pool of water Pyrus would stick both of his hands inside, seemingly to be stopped at a certain point by an unknown force, with a blink of his eye and a twitch of his left pinky finger the pool would glow slightly and power would be sent out to each pillar of the fence. "This is where the fun begins."

"Yes, yellow. Get some soldiers to watch the fortress for movement when your done Karstir, Harros take a small group of riders and find out what is going on in the south cohort! Get back as soon as possible when your task is complete. Halt!" Zaro said, speaking quickly. Zaro tightened his grip on his spear and cried "Form up unit! Archers prepare bows on the fortress. Karstir get the men in a circle formation ready on all sides, and prepare to take a small group backwards if we do need reinforcements hastily! Do it now!" Zaro readied his shield and spear for anything.

Card rode after Ha'zi, settling his horse on the other side of Miriel. "Miriel if a red firework is set off your with me, we will need Ha'zi more and I'm far quicker. It'll be safer." Card explained to the pair.
