Ventures into the Remote (Intro)

Captain Aasim

New member
V1 Lord
This is a roleplay set during the Third Age of Middle-Earth, T.A 3,000. It is a character-based roleplay whereby you, the player, may create a character and take part in a rather surprising adventure.

There are certain rules for this roleplay:
1) You must be able to post a minimum of 1-2 posts daily or give a valid reason for inactivity. This RP shall be highly interactive, requiring players to be responding to one another fairly quickly.
2) Your character must be within the bounds of logic, reason and the rules allocated to character creation.
3) If you cannot stand your character dying then this is not an RP for you. I warn, your character might die.
4) You must abide by the Role Play rules, which you shall find below.

Rules of Role Play:
1) The DM is always correct. This can only be avoided if a justifiable argument can be given, providing evidence any disagreement.
2) All roleplay posts must use italics, like this. If you wish to communicate IRL then use out-of-context speech with brackets (()). For example: ((Hey, Cap, is my character able to dual wield swords?))
3) Power-gaming and Meta-gaming are banned:
-Power gaming is when a role player attempts to control the RP by creating their own storyline which is illogical, disrupting other role player characters or any form of overt control that unbalances the roleplay.

For example:
Gargamel the Magnificent dashes through the sky, his warhammer striking the fire-drakes forehead with a resounding clang before falling back down to Earth as his pegasus swooped out of the air to magically catch him before he impacts with the ground. That is blatant power-gaming at its finest. It showcases a character flying through the air, slaying a beast and surviving without any damage sustained to themselves which is illogical and unbalanced.

Meta-gaming is when a roleplayer uses out-of-context or unknown knowledge to their character in order to solve a problem or bypass a dilemma easily. An example of this is:
Quentyn knew of the beasts hiding in the dark chamber, Aloysius had warned him of them. Now, this may be slightly more difficult to discern but here we see a character avoid entering a chamber full of beasts. They claim to have information from another character, however, said character (Aloysius) had not given this information to Quentyn. Thus Quentyn meta-games by avoiding the dark chamber through unknown knowledge.

Both power-gaming and meta-gaming in Ventures into the Remote will result in a warning if it occurs again, another warning will be issued before an eventual injury will occur to your character should you continue a third time and if it reaches a fourth your character and license to roleplay on Ventures into the Remote will be banned. If your post contains, to any degree, power-gaming or meta-gaming you will be asked to delete it or edit it until it fits with the natural course of the roleplay.

4) If you have any queries on the roleplay, any at all, use OOC brackets to ask a question. Once answered, delete your OOC post in order to avoid clogging up the thread for other roleplayers.

5) For all intense purposes please do not use vulgar or insensitive language as per the terms of these forums.

6) If you have major concerns throughout the RP, message a DM your query and we will respond to you as soon as possible.

7) The Year is Third Age 3,000, for reference here is a timeline from Tolkien Gateway: http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Timeline/Third_Age

That is all for the rule system. Be wary as these may be updated or edited at any time seen fit by the Head-DM.

Creating Characters:

You have the option of creating a character in this roleplay. They must fit these criteria:
-Your character cannot be illogical or unreasonable. No making OP Elf Princes or Giant Dinosaurs.

-Your character must be of the races: men, elves, dwarves or hobbits. Men include Dunedain/Numenoreans, Middle Men (the average Middle-Earth man e.g an Eorling of Rohan or Dale-men). Elves include Noldor (Lindon-Rivendell elves) and Galadhrim/Sindar (Lothlorien elves). Dwarves are specifically of the Blue Mountains (Thorin's Halls). Hobbits are those from the Shire, of course.

-Your character must have a moral compass. They cannot be slaves to Sauron or some form of black arts magicians. The only exception for an immoral character is an anti-hero, who has confused or at the bare minimum weak ethics. The characters in Ventures into the Remote shall mostly compose of the protagonist-hero genre, feel free to detail their moral beliefs, however, there is no place for the serial killer, Sauron worshipper type.

-All characters must be tied to Bree. The roleplay begins in Bree. Your character, depending on whether they are local or not, be a traveler or a landowner in the township of Bree. Bree shall be the humble beginnings of this audacious roleplay and eventually, all characters shall culminate at the Prancing Pony for an adventure into the unknown. The reasons for this shall, in time, be revealed within the roleplay.

-You may only have one character at a time. If your character dies in the roleplay to another character or is killed by the DM you may make another character. You may only have two-characters if instructed by the DM. No one shall receive two-characters at the start of this RP and only seasoned Ventures into the Remote roleplayers shall be able to access this feature in the future.

Now to begin character creation, use this format to make an application below in the form of a post:
Roleplayer: (your IGN or preferred name)
Character name: (e.g Kentucky Chicken II of Hobbiton)
Character race: (e.g Hobbit)
Character family: (Brother, Hamburgler; Brother, Ronald McDonald IV; Mother deceased; Father deceased)
Character morals: (Staunchly heroic, couldn't hurt a fly for the death of him)
Character design: (a hobbit, 3ft tall with ginger fluffy hair and overly large toenails, a picture may work as well)
Character weapons: (none, carrot maybe? *you start with one weapon only and will earn more along the journey, your weapon will be rather rudimentary and lacking any significance)
Character backstory: (every-day hobbit, quite average, parents died with the flu, once saw a rabbit die, dropped out of Gandalf's defense against the dark-arts classes, lived on old man Gringgleberries farm eating po-ta-toes)

Place any queries you have below and for those applying, use the character format above. Your application will be accepted or rejected depending on whether you have complied with the rules, so do read them.

Ventures into the Remote shall begin within a week and run for 3-weeks as a character-event role play.

So, prepare yourselves for this roleplay shall be like nothing you've ever experienced before.

Both accepted. Extra accepted for the Mary Sue and Deslan references guys. You both may think about where you would like to spawn in Bree. As you're both travelers and not local to the land you have a choice of:
a) The Prancing Pony.
b) The Bree-Inn.
c) The Blacksmiths Forge.
d) The Breeland Militia Barracks.
e) The Market Stalls.
f) The Crafters Workshop.

<3 If I make another after this, it'll be completely different.

Extra accepted for the Mary Sue and Deslan references guys.

That was the whole point.

Roleplayer: RikoMitiko
Character name: Deslan of Forochel
Character race: Male haradrim/lossothi middle-man
Character family: Lossothi mother deceased; lossothi half-brother doing... whatever, he's not important for the plot; haradrim father that won't be mentioned 'cause nobody knows of their connection and it would lead to other plot points anyway.
Character morals: Basically the same as Dim's, with an added mixture of sass and scepticism.
Character design: A tall and thin, yet athletic, man with mildly swarthy skin. Both his hair and eyes are brown... on the part not scarred by a nasty burn and cauterised scar running down his cheek. A handful of minor scars are also scattered on his face. Has a mechanical leg.
Character weapons: A hand-and-a-half sword, plus a bag of tools, components and mechanical arms for Dimitri.
Character backstory: In this Stoker-isation* of Deslan, he was born and raised in Harad until 9 years old, when he was taken back to Forochel for some secret rite of passage. During his hellish adolescence due to a stereotypical abusive mother and half-brother, his only solace the mechanical craft learnt by a regular dwarfish merchant from the Ered Luin - that and an unhealthy obsession with crows, ravens and the like. Upon escaping Forochel for unknown reasons, he wanders about, commits (or is charged unjustly of?) a crime so horrible a lot of people hate him, from the coasts of Belegaer to the Wilderland. He finds a friend in Dimitri, crafting several prosthetics for him, with seemingly random adjustments and gadgets for each. And so, Deslan follows his titanic friend up north, looking for coin, booze and whores like any common vagrant.

*This is, essentially, a reboot of Deslan that changes stuff in the same way the Stoker family's bad attempt to reclaim Dracula as their's does.

EDIT: I just realized, this setting makes Deslan and Reikoh half-brothers. That was entirely a coincidence.

Little note to 8861015 and 6427581, the mechanical arm for Dimitri of Forochel will be rather ineffective at the start of the story. Weather and other elements sort of hinders the arm, e.g water will corrode it and rust it leading to infection, hot weather can heat it up and cause it to burn the body when touched, moist climates such as jungles will also corrode it slightly. So, the arm can only really work in cold-mild temperatures e.g Eriador and needs to be detached when entering inhospitable territory if there is ever a case of this. Additionally, no gunpowder as it is only available from Istari and the like, however, hidden blades, slingshots and other medieval devices are allowed. Aside from that both Dimitri and Deslan are approved.

Roleplayer: Gundabad1
Character name: Grimnir "The Crimson" Bazakor
Character race: Dwarf
Character family: Father is wealthy landlord Grungi Bazakor, mother died long ago, has several brothers and sisters, unimportant however.
Character morals: Doesnt care too much for other's opionions, but when one wrongs him, he will be revenge incarnate, will gladly show the end of his axe whenever threathened.
Character design: https://imgur.com/a/5V1f2
Character weapons: a Labrys, as seen in the picture.
Character backstory: Grimnir is often seen as an ordinairy dwarf merchant with his good looks, and remarkable yet flawless beard of white. But looks often wrong the eyes, this Dwarf is known for his impenetrable will, and fighting skills by the many dwarves that have ever seen him fight in close quarters combat. Unique fighting style where he is one with whatever weapon he would be given, but preferably his own Axe. Coming from the East, making his way to the Blue Mountains to visit his father, he rests in Bree to continue his Journey back to the Ered-Luin, until now..
(had to rush this, will improve later)

Roleplayer: KingTraitor ((IGN: Thoruk_Ironbeard))
Character name: Thoruk Ironbeard
Character race: Dwarf ((male))
Character family: 1 brother: missing in action, no sisters, father: fallen in combat, mother: died due to an gobblin ambush
Character morals: "Take any chance you can get, it may be your last one."
Character design: He has rather long brown hair, a brown long beard, black eyes, average size ((Skin looks like him))
Character weapons: A two-handed ax and ((if allowed at the start)) a shield he got from his father
Character backstory: His story started in the iron hills, where he was born in the year 2931 T.A. He grew up quite fast and his parents soon realised he had a talent for fighting. The young Thoruk loved to impress his parents with his ax-throw skills, although he failed to hit the targets quite often, he still believed he could do everything. And so Thoruk trained and trained, almost every day, with his father and also sometimes with his older brother before his brother left the iron hills. He became a quite good ax-fighter and decided to go onto his first own journey around the year 2990. He went to see his older brother at the Kingdom of Erebor. He came back to the iron hills in the year 2996. He then eventually found out his father and his company fought till their death, but stood no chance against the mighty hordes of their enemies. He was shocked and told his mother he would never leave again, he raged before he collapsed due to a lack of energy and sleep. When he woke up again, he tried to clear his mind but he couldn't believe his father, the mightiest warrior he had ever seen, died in battle. He then joined the army of the iron hills to fight back any enemy that would even dare to come near their homeland. But the same year had another heavy hit for him. His mother and some of his best friends were attacked and eventually killed by goblins as their caravan full of goods rode toward the safe walls of the iron hills. After this shock, he was no longer the same person. The smile he had as a child was gone, he left the Iron Hills and set out to find his destiny or his end.... alone. ((A bit long and I'm not sure if it's ok, but I had a bit time between my school lessons, sooo, jea))

King, you don't have to use OOC brackets (()) while on this thread, only on the RP thread where you roleplay your character do you use OOC brackets when asking Out-Of-Character questions.
Gundabad, the Warhammer reference gives you extra points but 'grungi' is the dwarf term in that mythos, in LOTR the dwarves refer to themselves as Khazad.

You can take as much time to edit your application until the roleplay begins within 6 days. Good luck and have fun.

Roleplayer: Szucsclan
Character name: Sigeric of Dale
Character race: Human (Middle-Men)
Character family: Parents are both lesser nobles living on the eastern frontier of the kingdom. Has an older brother who is heir to the meager family estate, forcing Sigeric to seek his own sources of wealth.
Character morals: Sigeric is driven by a thirst for advancement in Dale's social hierarchy, though he follows a strict code of honor in regards to battle and warfare. He does not go too far out of his way to help others, though he will be happy to if there is a convenient opportunity.
Character design: Tall in stature (roughly 1.85 meters). Has light brown hair that doesn't quite reach down to his shoulders. Has pale blue eyes which almost always convey a serious expression. Wears a steel half-helm, as well as a suit of chain-mail combined with a dark blue gambeson.
Character weapons: Steel Halberd
Character backstory: Despite technically being of noble lineage, Sigeric's family is not nearly as wealthy or important as those in the Dalish heartland. Seeking to improve his status and gain renown, Sigeric joined the military of the rising kingdom, eventually working his way to the rank of Captain through a bit of valor and a knack for persuasion. Sigeric is currently in the service of the household of King Bain himself, and is on a mission to Bree to hold a discreet conference with the Dunedain rangers.

Roleplayer name: Mile_Hi_Masher
Character name: Frere the Bard

Character backstory: Frere has so many stories in his head, he often does not remember his own. He remembers he came from someplace and he had a family. But life isn't about staying in one place, so he went off for adventure. Through music and storytelling, he travelled the world hearing tales from every peoples, even orcs which was an interesting tale let me tell ya. He is always on the move, he is never in one place more than once. If you see him, they fate is what made it so because he makes no appointments.

I'll be gone for a week but when I get back I'll be right into it all. Just posting this here so you all have something to look forward too.

Character family: Father: lives in Dorwinion, Mother: lives in Dorwinion, Aunt Yileke (sister of his father): lives in Rhun, ladylove (Ana): Deceased.
Character morals: His eyes seemed to not look forward at all. He is borne back into the past as he penetrates through the forest as a lost soul.
Character design: young and athletic. His facial expression shows he is lost in his history, that he can no longer find the happiness that he is looking for. he has facial hair on his chin like this:
maxresdefault.jpg

Character weapons: Rhunic style Scimitar
Character backstory: His mother once told him, “if you are going to kill somebody, just remember that they were the fire in your own forest as his or her soul is being released.” That’s all Margöz remembers as he was sent away into Rhun with his aunt Yileke. He wanted to become a politician in the Rhunic government but he was not chosen by a law school. One time, he and his father met again.
“Hey, Margöz. I notice you are not doing so well in your education,” his father said.
“Ya, well, no Rhunic man appreciates me.”
“They will. You just got to give them what they want. How about you join me in my rum-running business? I notice not a lot of booze was sold at Rhun. We could make a fortune out of this”
At TA 2990, He is now a powerful figure in Rhun. His old man supplies him with a couple nice old barrels of Dorwinion wine and secretly export them throughout Rhun. Many guards died as a result. At one of his speakeasy bar, he met a girl name, Ana. She is quite feminine for her age. She goes up to him,
“Hey, who’s the host here?”
To him, she got the eyes of the sea of Rhun. She was as exquisite as the endless fields of Dorwinion wine plantations.
“Oh – well um – I thought you knew. I am the one running this bar. Would you like a drink?” His eyes are entirely focused on her. They talked for a bit. Ana said, “I like what you have done to this place. I am grateful for bringing such rare beverages in the heart of Rhun.”
A few years have passed. This bootlegging operation must have smuggled her into the bar as well. Soon, she and Margöz got into a relationship (I would tell how but that would be too complex). One time, his father sent him a message, “Come to Dorwinion and help your old man. The booze is ready.” He heads to Dorwinion and finds a veteran of the business, “We got an Easterling spy trying to infiltrate our booze. Take this bow and execute the scum.” The spy’s face is covered with a bag. This person will not see death coming at least. Margöz aims the bow, and without hesitation, he sets off the forest fire. Little did he know that the fire was expanding faster than he expected. The mobsters came and look at him in a strange way. Margöz says, “What are you staring at me for? Is something wrong?” One of the lads says, “Margöz, I’m sorry.”
“What the hell is going on here? Why is everyone looking at me in a different way?”
Another lad points at the body.
“What – who is this?” Margöz grabs the bag and pulls it out. Her face is exposed; the beauty lies lifelessly. His face is filled with complete guilt and sadness. “No – no, this is bullshit.”
“Nothing is bullshit. This is scientifically true,” his father said, “She was a spy who is trying to infiltrate our business. It’s probably the works of the Dark Lord. When bad meets evil, it will not end well. That’s when I came along and show you how to deal with stuff like this. As bad, you should learn to defeat evil, not embrace it.”
“No – shut up! You could have spared her,” he said, “I hate you! I wish you weren’t my father.” He runs and spread the fire throughout Middle-earth. One of the lads tried to stop him, but Margöz’s father told him to let him go. Off he goes now, leaving Dorwinion and the wine business forever. His flames beat the forests of middle earth, as he is borne back into its heart, as lost as the soul he took himself. (and then he ends up in Bree :p)

12253360 my backstory has a lot of symbolism. If you get confused somehow, you can ask me.

Roleplayer: CluckmanTheDerp, call me Cluckman or any variation of it
Character name: Daugo Burgins of Buckland
Character race: Hobbit
Character family: Siblings: Surgo, Ara, Jam, Sunny, Ulso (deceased); Mother: Doromy Newbuck, alive, an old geezer; Father: Ulso (deceased); Uncle: Areth Newbuck, alive, quite friendly; Spouse: Pomona Sprout)
Character morals: Likes being comfortable, resents his father for having gambled away his inheritance, and will thus do a lot to provide his impending son with decent wealth; is a good liar, but tries to be honest these days
Character design: An average sized hobbit of medium build, bushy brown hair, a trustworthy, almost silly face, large feet, a slight belly
Character weapons: He carries a walking stick sometimes
Character backstory: Daugo was raised in the border area between the Shire proper and Breeland, in a small but relatively luxurious house owned by his father Ulso. Ulso was not a good man; he was often to be found gambling at the local inns, or flirting with other women, or drinking into oblivion. He never hurt his family--he was quite peaceful--but his debauchery led to a decline in the family's wealth and social standing. His sons left the house in bitterness, Ara married into a lowly family, Sunny is rumored to be involved in unsavory business with the male hobbit population. Daugo himself began an apprenticeship as a woodcarver, but quickly discovered his talent for swindling others. This period of his life, he calls "the dark years": he spent his time going around the Shire, conning other hobbits and using the profits to maintain his mother, buy drink, and find housing. Eventually, his father died, and, since his older brother Ulso had died a few years earlier, it falls to him to attend the funeral. This day is marked by drama and profuse alcoholism, and results in the folk of Buckland banishing Daugo from his homeland. This sobers him up a little, but what really puts him back in line is his meeting Pomona, a Bree merchant's daughter. He's spent the last three years after her, and has only recently married her; her father doesn't wish her to leave Bree, so he's got the perfect excuse to stay... But still, he wants more.

Also, I like the variation in terms of characters. Two men, incredibly different and a hobbit. This will be an interesting group.

I'll wait until your entire app is finished before I approve, 12519458.

Gris, your character is very detailed, good job on that explanative backstory. Just don't make his depression too over the top since Ana's betrayal, death and Margoz's family's murder are all recent so Margoz should be in the first stages of grief: denial and anger. Aside from that tidbit, great character.

Mile and Cluckz, I love the non-conformative characters. I expect comedic moments between the hobbit and the bard. Bravo.

For my option of starting id like you to choose, but here are my ideas:

For option D I could of had my character come to the Market to get seeds or tools for his farm when the local milita leader heard I was here, knowing I was a officer and a respected (even though not a master or legendary) warrior and leader amongst the ranks of Gondor. After finding me he would ask if I would be willing to come up to the barracks before I left and talked tot he lads a bit.

Or option E, basically the same thing as above but without the Milita part

Roleplayer: assassiniv but u can call me ass
Character name: Iver of Dale
Character race: north man
Character family: His father's family Lived east to Dale in the years after smaug destroyed Dale (near river run) and built a small trading post with wall and a small stone house that was used as a castle in raids of easterlings, bandits and roaming orcs. His father Erland and his father Arvid came to help rebuild Dale after he herd the news of smaug's defeat, leaving the mother and 3 of her children back in their place. In Dale he met his future wife Alva and 33 years after he came he married her (2977) and they had their first child at 2978 and named him Egil. 2 years later at 2980 they had their second child Iver (that’s me :) ) and 3 years later they had their last child, a girl this time and named her Erica. At 3000 the family owned a large trading empire with posts all over the north and caravans traveling far west and south. Egil became the manager of the trading post at the Iron hills. Erica manage the trading post at dorwinion and his father's brother Haldor manage the outpost at mirkwood. His father and mother, now manage the HQ of their trade empire in their free time.
Character morals: Think fast or you will lose the chance, more of a trading moral but accepted for other subjects as well.
Character design: a dark haired blue-eyed Northman slightly higher than the average, athletic and slightly muscled from years of carrying goods in the far past.
Character weapons: He only carries a spear and a shield that were used by him to show off more than to actually fight but still hurt some (mostly bandits and some wild animals).
Character backstory: From a very young age Iver was a great talker, liar, charismatic and would clearly make a good trader like the rest of his family. His first ever deal was when he broke a blue glass window and sold its pieces to some of his friends as jewels and tried and use the money to pay someone to fix the window. This ended up with his father coming home to stranger in his house near his window so he grabbed a chair and hit em on his back. It ended up with Iver cleaning the house for 2 weeks but his future as a merchant was clear.
Throughout the years Iver learned to read peoples, what they want and what they need. What their wishes are and what is their priorities. It was said that he could sell sand to the men of harad or wine to the elves of dorwinion. So good he was at talking and trading that he took a caravan, few guards and went on his way to sell his goods to the far west. Throughout his trips he made a lot of friends and (put a term for less than a friend) from Gondor where he sold wine and jewels and bought supplies to the road to the shire where he bought pipe weed and sold mostly salt.

14628767 Nice nickname. Intriguing character. This one is rare and your family history, tied with your humorous background made for a good read, I thank you on my behalf for that. It will be fascinating watching your character interact with the others when the roleplay begins. Well done.
