VENTURES INTO THE REMOTE (RP)

Daugo did, in fact, not care. Upon seeing Marco's lying body, memories and past traumas had flooded in relentlessly, a vicious torrent that he was not even capable of fully registering. He was paralyzed; he cared about nothing anymore, except keeping his children safe, and even then, he wondered... What was the point? Why should he try to fight for a world that would only beat down on his little ones relentlessly, until at last, burdened and weary, they would expire and leave forever, their marks on Arda being like footsteps on dry sand, washed away immediately by the waters of time? There truly seemed to be nothing good worth saving.

He did stir a little upon hearing that something was lurking close to them. "Iv," he said despondently. "What's going on?" It was as much an existential question, as one focused on the present troubles.

"Daugo? keep it quiet, there is something in the woods" Iver said after the hobbit finally decided to join them in the real world

Cardiloc heard voices. Some he recognized, others were completely foreign to him. They drifted in and out until the darkness faded and his eyes opened. His head hurt and his mouth was drier than the deserts of Near Harad. The first thing he saw was a wooden roof. The texture was a rich white timber that could only have been derived from the purest birchwoods. A torch's dying lights flickered across his body and he saw that he had received a change of outfit and was gowned in cotton whites. He lay upon a bed of linen that barely fit him and beside it was a tiny table holding two cups of water. A small cat lay on the countertop staring through emerald eyes at him. A shiver met Card as he had a faint memory of Miriel and her jaded eyes. The pain came back to him and his memories returned. His hunting, the island, the Karoltai, Morgoth, his mother, Ela, Miriel, Mordor, Tulkas, the Destroyer, the Silmarils, and Ha'zi. Aside from the cat, there was no other being in the room with him. A door lay five meters ahead of his tiny decorated room but the unyielding thirst that came upon him made the two cups of water his first priority.

------------------------------------

The silence continued as they all waited. Then a slight whistle and a quick WHOOSH.

Directly next to Iver, one of the black cloaks keened and fell over on his back, a splash of blood erupting from his neck and flicking the Dalishman's features. A brown barbed-spike protruded from his jugular. The man struggled, gripped it and coughed up blood as he ripped it out, trying to speak whilst he drowned in a muck of crimson.

"Mal!" Ramdir yelled as his friend was felled.
"Over there!" Someone else screamed.

A sleek creature emerged from one of the bushes towards the rear. It was brown and muscular beyond belief with its muscles rippling beneath a set of fur. It resembled an oversized dog and walked on all fours with the speed of a twisting snake as it rushed towards them. On it back was a set of razor-sharp spinal barbs in varying shapes and sizes that twitched as it moved. It charged in Iver's direction. Daugo, Thoruk and Ramdir were the closest in range to the Dalishman. Ha'zi, Sigeric, Dimitri, Hering, Galador, Erchirion, and Marco's unconscious body were nearby as the beast appeared. They all lacked the energy to transform and at this point, Dimitri could barely walk, let alone fight.

Meanwhile, Arandil and Magath were erupted by a set of shouts from ahead.
"Hurry up lads, we've made it to Henneth Annun!"
Suddenly there was a sickening whistle and a scream from the rear of the convoy.

The dunlending stared around at these visions with a sense of mirth and wonder, his breath catching in his throat at the sight of Miriel, the one who had betrayed them. The young man felt tears prick at his eyes at the memories of his family; his mother and little sister. He had to get back to Ela, from this nightmarish apocalyptic world. He just had to, she was in great peril as Minas Tirith was surely the first place Morgoth would attack. Card stumbled towards the water, driven by his unquenching sense of thirst. He drank deep, and greedily. Then approached the door.

Cardiloc heard voices from beyond the doorway. There were whispers and a laugh or scoff. He recognized one of the voices but it wasn't Ha'zi and he couldn't put his mind to it. He was still hazy from the entire journey.

The doorknob was rimmed copper with flecks of a crimson stream, it's handle reflected his face in the dimmed torchlight. He was almost taken aback at the figure he saw. He hadn't shaved and his beard had grown wild. He almost looked like his father for a moment. A true Dunlending. Homesickness washed over him more and more as he remembered that Ela was out there alone, without him.

Arandil gave the horse's lead to Magath. "Go captain, GO!" He yelled in anger.
"Were so close we won't fail now. Take the injured to the hideout ,all of the injured. They are the priority. Once you do ask from the captain of the rangers to send a small squad of his best men. Whatever is back there sounds like it will tear us all up. Go." And with that Arandil equipped his helmet, took his shield from the horse, unsheathed his sword and ran to the back of the convoy.

Card gazed at his face for a moment, Ela, his mind told him, it was all that could keep him going. The dunlending pressed his hand to the doorknob, and opened it. 12253360

"Oh Shit!" Iver shouted as the man next to him got killed, it seems like now the hunter was the hunt. Iver watched in horror as the beast charged at him, before a small voice in his head reminded him that it wont end well if he will just stare at this thing like an idiot. He tried to jump out of the creature's way, hoping to dodge him.

Thoruk, a bit unsure of what to do, looks at the beast. As he tries to use his electricity on his axe he feels a sudden sting in his hand. A lack of power, thats what he felt. "Aye, most likely not this time slave of the dark lord..." he thinks as he tries to slowly go backwards, his hand on his axe, ready to use it if needed.

In a dashing moment of bravery, Erchirion lunges towards Marcos collapsed body and hauls him up onto his shoulders. Quickly, he fled as light as he could, but unsheathed his sword might the beast catch the two. He would be fully responsible for both of their lives, and one stroke of bad omen could send them both to their graves.

"Oh shit!" Ha'zi exclaimed as the beast appeared and instantly took out one of the cloaked men. He sighs and says sarcastically under his breath, "You just had to have this happen to you now, Sigeric." The Haradrim tries to focus on zapping the creature with lightning kicks as Thoruk uses electricity.

Thoruk, slowly taking a step backwards sees Ha'zi, trying to... lift up his foot? "Ha'zi!" Thoruk quietly says. "What ever you're bout to try lad, don't do it, I wonna smash this thing too, but not this time" he says to the boy.

Daugo cast a brief look at the creature before his survival instinct kicked in and sent him sprinting away from it like a plump gazelle.

"No reason to not do it, Thoruk. Now, either help or make like Sigeric and be of absolutely no aid at the moment." He replies, concentrating on his mimicry attack.

"This kid..." Thoruk thinks, upset that the boy even dares to not follow his call. "This bugger..." he thinks looking at him, taking a step forward again. "Aye, atleast he thinks like a dwarf, never flee from a fight" Thoruk says to himself, a bit shocked that he was even thinking about not participating in this fight, like a puny elf, running away from even the smallest fight, how could he even think about something like this. "You're right.." he says. "I've something planned" he says to the boy as he tries to light up his fathers axe with fire. He looks at his fathers axe as he concentrates his last bit of energy into creating a flame, deadly enaugh to kill this beast, but not too big to burn himself.

The door slid open and Cardiloc glimpsed a hall in the same white timber that his room was built of. Brilliant lights danced across the roof and floor illuminating a great table that stretched throughout the middle along which many chairs lay. Empty plates and ornaments laid upon it whilst a group of people sat in speech at the far end of the table. Their heads turned to see Cardiloc and their conversation paused.

The first was a man, he was old with a grey beard and balding salt and pepper hair. He wore an eye patch and his face was covered with scars.

The second was a hobbit. He was middle-aged and had brown hair and puffy ears. He frowned upon seeing Cardiloc.

The third was a woman. She seemed to be in her early thirties and wore a cloak. Her face was heavily masked by a scarf and Cardiloc froze for a moment on seeing envy-green eyes stare into his soul.

The fourth was Ha'zi, who sat at next to the old man. He merely raised his eyebrows in response and waved at Cardiloc, "Come and sit." He pointed at a seat next to the hobbit.

The fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth members stood and quickly left through a side door with no regard to Cardiloc. He recognized none of them or so he thought.

-----------------------------------------

The beast prowled forward, its movements as swift as a feather as it chased after Iver. Although Iver was fast, Daugo was faster and the hobbit outran him as the beast was quickly gaining. It would be upon him in seconds.

Thoruk's axe lit with smoldering flames whilst Ha'zi kicked blindly at the air to no effect. No electricity ran through the Haradrim boy as he failed his puny legs at the beast to much comedic effect in the eyes of the black cloaks.
The fuck is he doing, Ramdir thought as he gripped his blade and unsheathed it. They'd fought beasts before, trolls and olog hai much larger than this thing. It should be a piece of cake. He'd make it pay for Malfinder's death.

Galador looked to the remaining men as Erchirion fled with Marco, "Those who can fight, surround the critter and kill it! FOR GONDOR!" He yelled as he ran towards it with his spear poised forth. Pethon charged followed by Ramdir. Hering saw his brothers in arms rush to catch the thing whilst Sigeric and Dimitri sat around uselessly, Ha'zi kicked the air and the others ran.

Erchirion heard the war cry of his best friend erupt behind him as he rushed forward after the convoy. Up ahead he saw more rangers and soldiers turning around in confusion at the screams

"Aran-," Magath paused as the man rode off, "Guh." He turned around and made for the hideout, "Come on, move!" He hurried the injured men along.

Arandil saw dozens of people fleeing and others turning to fight as he rode back towards the rear. In the distance, he glimpsed something about six meters in length and three in width rushing across the ground. Its body was so black that it nearly camouflaged into the night.

Sigeric gradually became aware of his surroundings, and of the crowd that had gathered around him. That dark presence was gone, and yet he could not take his mind off of it. Those visions. The others had to know. He opened his mouth to speak, but his voice fell flat as he saw the black cloak pierced in the jugular. He turned and saw it: A grotesque beast, the likes of which he had never seen. Yet he had just now seen far worse things. With a wave of dizziness, Sigeric rose to his feet, gripping the Maiar blade in his hand. Was the creature a form of Maia? Even if so, he doubted that he could get close without a distraction. He backed away from the creature, regrouping with the others, a calm expression on his face - the result of utter desensitization to such horrors.

Thoruk, upon seeing his axe lightning in flames, looks at Ha'zi, missing. "Lad, I like your fighting spirit, but I'll take over" Thoruk would say, slowly walking, then starting to run after the beast. "Turn around you filthy scum, feel Durins wrath!" he shouts in an attempt to help Iver escape from it. If it turns around, well, he'd try his best not to die, swinging his burning axe infront of him.
